The University employs many apprentices, including several in the maintenance teams and a current electrical apprentice. 

You must have 5 GCSE passes (or predicted), be enthusiastic about developing your skills and be able to show how you have put that interest to practical use.

You will work towards a level 3 apprenticeship in while learning to install, maintain and repair a wide variety of electrical building services, plant and equipment, giving you the skills and knowledge to develop and succeed as a fully trained Electrician.  

We expect that the apprenticeship will last for up to 4 years, after which there will be the opportunity to be considered for a permanent role.

The University Hospitality Department provides catering to students, staff and external customers throughout the academic year and during the summer months. There are numerous outlets run by the Hospitality Department offering a range of food and drink options.

We currently have a vacancy for a Food & Beverage Assistant, fixed term contract from 1st September 2025 - 24th July 2026 . In this role you will be required to ensure that the day to day running of the catering operation is smooth and that customers are provided with a high standard of service at all times. Your responsibilities will include taking customer orders, serving food and drink, working on the tills, stocking food stations and assisting with cleaning and clearing tables and catering areas. Full details of this role are included in the job description. 

The role includes early morning, evening and weekend working on a 5 out of 7 days per week contract (36.5 hours per week).  The weekly shift pattern consists of straight shifts only, no split shifts. The shifts are predominantly Monday-Friday with occasional weekend work.

The successful candidate will have experience of providing an excellent standard of customer service in a customer focussed environment. Previous experience of working in the Hospitality industry would be an advantage. You should be a good team worker and be able to be calm and professional in high pressure situations, as it can be extremely busy during peak times.

You will be responsible for opening and closing the department, producing EOD financial reports and following the FSMS, HACCAP, H&S, and all other policies and procedures.

You will also support in staff training and maintaining high standards at all times. 

As Catering Supervisor, you will be expected to lead the day-to-day operations of the café, ensuring a high standard of food quality, customer service, and team performance. Your role will be to deliver a smooth, efficient service while maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for customers and staff.

This is a full time role, working 36.5 hours per week during term time only (33 weeks per year), predominantly Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work.

The Campus Services department was created in August 2022 by combining all the facilities teams across the University into one department to support our University strategy, where strong campus services are essential to underpin excellence in education, research and experience for students, staff, visitors and commercial customers alike. We house over 5000 students throughout the academic year and during the summer month’s, external companies use our accommodation services for conferences, summer camps and away days.

Since last August we have continued to develop the services we provide in response to the changing needs of the University.

As a Porter you’ll have a key role in helping students transition from living at home to fully independent living and ensuring all our accommodation users have the best possible experience when staying with us.

Responsibilities include:

  • Removing waste and recycling from accommodation areas
  • Restocking essential customer supplies in accommodation areas
  • Collecting and sorting linen and bedding
  • Reporting maintenance issues
  • Ensuring health and safety guidance is followed
  • Acting as the face of the department, engaging with students and visitors

Further information

This role is 36.5 hours a week working shifts between 9am-5:20pm on a 5 over 7 rota. However, we are flexible on working hours so please outline any specific requests to your application form. 

Portering is required in some areas at weekends, therefore there is an expectation to work weekends on a rota basis. Weekend rota work requirements apply mainly during the summer peak period.

This is a great position to learn and develop basic skills within a sporting environment where you will get to work alongside high-performance athletes, many of whom compete in the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Your main responsibilities will consist of

  • lifeguarding
  • setting up indoor and outdoor activities
  • setting up events
  • assisting with general enquiries from customers
  • responding to ad hoc requests for support

You will also be involved in patrolling facilities, security, cleanliness, health and safety and emergency procedures.

Further information

You will need good interpersonal skills, the ability to work as part of a team and enjoy working varied hours. 

You will work an average of 36.5 hours per week over in a shift rota with the other Sports Assistants which will include early mornings, evenings and weekends covering all hours of operation between 05:45 and 22:30 weekdays and 07:30 to 19:30 weekends. 

Due to the working hours and pattern of this role, this role is only suitable for those aged 18 years and over.

Part of this role involves lifeguarding duties and therefore you will need to have a lifeguarding (NPLQ) qualification. You can gain the qualification by completing a short course with the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) - find out more here:

This role requires a basic DBS check which we would organise for you and we will support you with all the training you need to thrive in this inspiring environment.
